Participants in the
annual conference of the International Consumer
Protection and Enforcement Network (ICPEN) that has been
held in Chile from Monday, November 26-29, 2007
applauded Egypt’s accession to the Network.
Saeed Al-Alfy, Chairman
of the Consumer Protection Agency said that Egypt is the
first country in the Middle East and Africa to
participate in this significant event. The conference’s
proceedings were opened by Chilean Minister of Trade,
the Chairwoman of the US Federal Trade Commission, and
chairpersons of consumer protection agencies from the 38
member states.
Al-Alfy added that the
conference will discuss cooperation and coordination
between governmental authorities to eradicate
cross-border harmful and deceptive practices that harm
consumers.
Amr Fahim, Executive
Director of the CPA, pointed out that several condensed
meetings have been held with chairpersons of the
consumer protection agencies of participating countries
to learn from the experience of the countries that are
advanced in this regard, which will positively reflect
on the constant development and steady update of the
Egyptian Consumer Protection Agency.
