Egypt accedes to the ICPEN

Participants in the annual conference of the International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network (ICPEN) that has been held in Chile from Monday, November 26-29, 2007 applauded Egypt’s accession to the Network.

Saeed Al-Alfy, Chairman of the Consumer Protection Agency said that Egypt is the first country in the Middle East and Africa to participate in this significant event. The conference’s proceedings were opened by Chilean Minister of Trade, the Chairwoman of the US Federal Trade Commission, and chairpersons of consumer protection agencies from the 38 member states.

Al-Alfy added that the conference will discuss cooperation and coordination between governmental authorities to eradicate cross-border harmful and deceptive practices that harm consumers.

Amr Fahim, Executive Director of the CPA, pointed out that several condensed meetings have been held with chairpersons of the consumer protection agencies of participating countries to learn from the experience of the countries that are advanced in this regard, which will positively reflect on the constant development and steady update of the Egyptian Consumer Protection Agency.
