For the dissemination of Consumer Protection Law awareness

The Consumer Protection Agency is working on the accomplishment of its major milestone objective, i.e. the dissemination of CP Law awareness and means of enforcement to help consumers learn about their rights and obligations, while underpinning the role of consumer protection NGOs. In this framework, a meeting has been held with these organizations under the auspices of Eng. Rachid Mohamed Rachid, Minister of Trade and Industry, on February 10, 2007, where means of inter-NGO cooperation and role stimulation to protect consumers have been discussed.

Mr. Saeed Al-Alfy, CPA Chairman, stressed the importance of the role played by consumer protection civil society organizations which work as a public-level market monitoring mechanism, thus integrating public and state efforts to protect consumers in Egypt, an issue that the Egyptian government is paying particular attention in the light of President Mubarak's directions.

On his part, Counselor Hisham Ragab, Assistant to the Minister of Trade and Industry for Legal Affairs, made a quick review of the Consumer Protection Law and Executive Regulations and underscored the role of NGOs in filing consumer complaints with the agency.

A joint cooperation protocol has been signed between the Consumer Protection Agency and the Egyptian National Postal Authority by virtue of which free of charge complaint forms have been distributed among 3500 post offices across the country. Consumers who face trouble when buying any goods can write their complaints on these forms and send them, free of charge, to the Consumer Protection Agency.
